In the 19th century, the population of Beaulieu grew rapidly and tourists became more and more numerous, hence the need to have a larger church than the chapel of Sancta Maria de Olivo, which is nowadays a venue for exhibitions.

The French and foreign guests who passed the winter in the commune contributed to the financing of the new church. However, due to lack of money, the central tower and two pinnacle turrets were never built.

The first stone was laid in 1899 following the instructions of the local architect Joseph Bovis and the church consecrated in 1903. The present porch was completed in 1927.
